The experience

On GetYourGuide, this is the castle option with the most reviews: 4.6 out of 5 from 9,148 ratings, from $20 per person, free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The listing states the €18 adult ticket is included in the price, with the reduced rate of €2 for EU citizens aged 18 to 25. The staff will meet you near the entrance to arrange the ticket and start the app.

The audio guide is an app on your phone, in Italian, English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Polish and Portuguese. You need your own headphones and a charged phone. One thing to know before entering: according to some reviews, the track numbering does not follow the current museum route, which with the ongoing works opens from the Dromos and the ramp: look for the track of the room you are in, instead of going in order.

The listing mentions tickets with a time slot: arrive 15 minutes early, as late arrival may mean you cannot join. Inside, you explore freely, and the listing estimates about two hours. According to the listing, it is not suitable for people with mobility issues or wheelchair users, and strollers, suitcases or large bags are not allowed.

  • Entrance ticket included, with staff assistance
  • Digital audio guide via app in 8 languages, including Italian
  • Explore the castle at your own pace, from Hadrian's tomb to the terrace
  • The terrace with a view of St Peter's, at the top of the route
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before

An excellent experience! The castle (Hadrian's tomb) is now a beautiful museum. The terrace also offers a fantastic view of the city of Rome! The included audio guide is very good, although to improve the experience further it could be synced with the current route. [...]

Castel Sant'Angelo was not overcrowded, so the visit was not stressful but enjoyable. The historical context was very interesting and the building very impressive.

Fantastic, by far the best view of the city. We loved it!

Tips before booking

  • Charge your phone and bring headphones: they are not included, and without them you cannot hear the audio guide.
  • The meeting point is discreet: according to one review, the flag was resting on the bench. Look for the purple T-shirts at the first bench on the left, just as you enter the park.
  • Bring your passport or ID card: the listing asks for the full names of everyone, and the ticket is named.
  • If the track does not match the room, skip to the number of the room you are in: the numbering does not always follow today's route.
  • Before you leave, read the guide to what to see: with the audio in your ears, you already know what to look for in each room.
